chap 04Guess what? Sex after menopause may very well be the best sex you’ll ever have. Here’s an interesting fact: for the first time in history, people are living long enough to have sex for many years after they are done having children.
Women who have gone through menopause can now have sex simply because we want to, not because we have to. A liberating thought, no?
But, the problem is . . . even though we can have sex pretty much whenever we want — we have more time, we’re more confident, and most kids are now grown and out of the house — many women just aren’t. Sex can often take a back seat, slowing down to a drip, even in committed and loving relationships. Why? For a majority of women, it boils down to one reason: it can hurt because of vaginal discomfort. And if something hurts, or is uncomfortable and no longer pleasurable, the easiest thing to do is to avoid it altogether.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. There are simple things we can do to treat this common complaint. All you have to do is start talking: to your friends, partner, and especially your health care provider.

In the months ahead you’ll be hearing a lot more about this issue from me because I’m a woman on a mission, having recently joined an important alliance — GLAM (Great Life After Menopause) — to encourage and inspire women to talk about vaginal discomfort, get the treatment they need, and feel good again.

GLAM is made up of women just like me who have gone through menopause, experienced some of the unpleasant changes, but decided to do something about it. This important initiative is sponsored by Novo Nordisk, a global leader in women’s health.

For more information about GLAM (Great Life After Menopause) and the other members of our alliance, please visit www.greatlifeaftermenopause.com. And if you want to know more how to take better care of what’s below the belt . . . visit: vaginaldiscomfort.com.

And remember this: we can’t control getting older . . . but . . . we can control how we do it.
