1997. I was President of World Economic Developmen 1997. I was President of World Economic Development Congress and Henry Kissinger was a frequent guest on our programs and a friend and neighbor. Didn’t agree with everything he said but he was the most charming man I ever met. I was 7 months pregnant with Elizabeth in this photo. We were holding court in Hong Kong after the historic handover of Hong Kong back to China from Great Britain. The World Economic Development Congress was the first officially sanctioned (by China) conference to be held immediately after the historic handover, thanks to Henry Kissinger. Amazing times. So in 2022 I ran the entire TCS New York City Mara So in 2022 I ran the entire TCS New York City Marathon with one of the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation 'Be Bone Strong' Team members -- Mary Newell. Before that day, we had only gotten to know each other through emails and the monthly team Zoom chats I led. We met up by chance while crossing the Verrazzano Bridge from the start in Staten Island to Brooklyn. "Hey," Mary said. "Let's stick together for a while." And we ended up sticking together for 26.2 miles in the heat and humidity (it was one of the warmest NYC Marathon's in recent memory). We talked about music (mostly from the 60s and 70s of course) and family, and Mary told me about all the marathons and ultramarathons she had run . . . and why she started running. "Hey," I said to Mary. "Let's record an episode of my podcast tomorrow and talk about why we each started running, and what it means to us." And that's what we did.
